Episode 1: Creativity

As one who’s been having existential crises since childhood, painstakingly questioning reality and my place in this world, I have thought at length about my life's purpose. Very early on, I learnt we don’t all have the same purpose due to our unique journeys; however, I saw a common denominator within our different paths.

No matter what walk of life we come from, what tangent we took along the way, and where we find ourselves now, the purpose has a common thread of creativity.

From my vantage point, all humans do is create themselves in some way or another, expressing that creativity through grandiose and visible ways like making beautiful pieces of art or in subtle ways like talking to one’s neighbour and creating a relationship.

We are creatures who make something out of nothing. We are all fertile beings who birth new things with each breath we take, creating carbon dioxide and burning energy, creating experiences and memories. And what made me see it as our core purpose is that the stagnancy of non-creation leads to unhappiness, stagnation, and eventual death.

Whether we create constructively or destructively, this is where humans feel alive. It is what excites us and makes us feel awakened. Whether creating a friendship, a painting, a meal, order, chaos, cleanliness, understanding, fun, power, confidence, or pain, it is when we have created something that we feel like we have experienced living, even if short-lived, uncomfortable or superficial. Even mistakes contribute to our purpose.

With any musing, I may change my mind about this viewpoint because that is part of being a creative being. We grow, create new paradigms and gain fresh understanding when presented with more information on our journey because nothing is permanent. As soon as we birth something, it begins its journey towards death.
